Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion which was chosen by Oliver Hyde who was last week’s trivia winner. Yellowjacket from the Ant-Man set is Oliver’s choice.

Discussion: The character of Darren Cross made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the 2015 film Ant-Man. Cross tries to engineer a similar suit to Hank Pym’s Ant-Man suit so he can sell a fleet of suits to Hydra for a profit. He becomes obsessed when his efforts fail and eventually turns on his former mentor and will do anything to reach his goal. Eventually Ant-Man and his team of misfits take down Cross and prevent the sale of weapons to H.Y.D.R.A. Yellowjacket was good enough as a one off villain but I wanted more. More backstory between Cross and Pym would’ve been really great which would’ve added more depth to his character. It would’ve fantastic if they delved into a bit of a father and son relationship when Cross started working for Pym early on and to see how the jealously began to develop.

Yellowjacket
#86 Yellowjacket (Glow in the Dark) (Amazon)

Although Yellowjacket wasn’t very memorable ala Loki, Red Skull, or Hela he did get two pops as part of the Ant-Man set. These are the only two pops that currently exist of the character and I think the only one we might get in the future is a comic book version. The glow in the dark version of Yellowjacket which you can see above looks really awesome at night. The eyes are the main part that stand out. This glow in the dark exclusive was only available through Amazon or Underground Toys. I’m sure the majority of people that ordered Yellowjacket did so from Amazon. However, Underground Toys does have offices in the U.S., UK, and Hong Kong so it was widely available on an international level. I’m not familiar with the production run but I’d add it to your collection sooner rather than later.

Because Yellowjacket was available at Amazon you could definitely save yourself a bit of money with Prime shipping which is exactly how I added it to my personal collection. Most of the ones I’ve seen on eBay sell for under $15.00 which is not a bad price point to be under. Take advantage of the lower price while you can. The normal Yellowjacket has become vaulted and there’s no way to tell when that will happen with this one. As always, make sure you check out our great Facebook group where you can buy, sell, and trade with thousands of members. Did you enjoy this article? If so, make sure you participate in the trivia questions below and you’ll give yourself a chance to make your choice.

Trivia: Welcome to our weekly trivia where you have a chance of choosing the pop for the next column. Be the first to comment with the correct answers to both questions and win. If you become the weekly champion you must choose a pop within the MCU that has not been featured in the Flashback Friday series. This week’s questions will come from Ant-Man.

Q1: What superhero will Hope Van Dyne become in the Ant-Man sequel?

Q2: What was the name of the ant that flew Ant-Man around?

I hope you enjoyed this week’s column. Please check back next week for a brand new Flashback Friday. Excelsior!!

I've been an avid Pop MCU collector for the last few years. I've recently focused my collection on Captain America Funko products since he's my favorite Marvel superhero. I've also been collecting and playing the Pokémon Trading Card game for the last decade. I also run and judge events. I'm into Marvel, DC, Pokémon, Disney, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and WWE.

  1. 1) Wasp

    2) Ant-thony designation number, 247, which is totally an easteregg beacuse it is a reference to the comics Tales to Astonish #27 & Marvel Premiere #47… which just happen to be the first appearances of Hank Pym and Scott Lang!

    NEXT: Something Black Panther related!

  2. @Ryan James! That’s a great piece of information and an awesome Easter Egg. Thanks for sharing. Black Panther related you shall get.
