Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion which was chosen by me and comes from Thor: The Dark World. Because this is the first Flashback Friday of 2018 I thought we’d start with a double dose of Thor.

Discussion: Thor: The Dark World is nowhere near the best of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it did give us a small, decent set. I know it may not be the most popular opinion but for me, only the boxes that have “Thor: The Dark World” labeled on the top of the box are considered part of the set. I know Heimdall, Odin, and Lady Sif are in the film and they have pops but since it says “Marvel” on the top of their boxes it’s not part of the set. With that in mind, there are three Thor, two Loki, and one Dark Elf in the set. Now that I’m thinking about how come we didn’t get a Malekith? Seems really odd that we didn’t get the main villain. Okay that’s enough rambling from me. Let’s move on to the God of Thunder, Thor.

Thor

The number 35 in the entirety of the Marvel pop sets is Thor from Thor: The Dark World. There are two versions which you can see in the images provided. The first is Thor in normal colors and no helmet. This one was widely released and could be found wherever Funko products are sold. Since this was released five years ago it comes as no surprise that it became vaulted. This means that Funko no longer actively produces the item. However large the production run was it’s now all we have in the market. The price will reflect the demand and as of right now the price is double the normal retail cost. Look for this one to run right around the $25.00 mark.

Thor

The second one is the exact same pop except for the fact it’s a black and white variant and that it was exclusively available from Gemini Collectibles. It’s a really unique looking version of Thor and it’s currently the only black and white Thor available. I’m fairly certain this one is also no longer being produced seeing as its five years old now. Doing a quick search on their website I can see it’s longer available for purchase. This one goes for roughly $30.00 on most websites. Adding either of these Thor to your collection will need to be done via Amazon, eBay, or our Facebook group which can be found here. You can buy, sell, and trade for all of your Funko wants. Please check it out and let us know what you think by participating in discussion posts or drop a comment below.

Trivia: Welcome to our weekly trivia where you have a chance of choosing the pop for the next column. Be the first to comment with the correct answers to both questions and win. If you become the weekly champion you must choose a pop within the MCU that has not been featured in the Flashback Friday series. This week’s questions will come from Thor: The Dark World.

Q1: How many hammers were made for the film?

Q2: How long did it take to complete the look for Malekith each day?

I hope you enjoyed this week’s column. Please check back next week for a brand new Flashback Friday. Excelsior!!

I've been an avid Pop MCU collector for the last few years. I've recently focused my collection on Captain America Funko products since he's my favorite Marvel superhero. I've also been collecting and playing the Pokémon Trading Card game for the last decade. I also run and judge events. I'm into Marvel, DC, Pokémon, Disney, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and WWE.
