For today’s Funko Pop! review, I take a look at some of the Disney/Pixar’s COCO collection. The movie officially released here in the US today, and is centered around the Mexican celebration of “Dia de Muertos” (Day of the Dead), a holiday currently celebrated around Halloween of each year. To coincide with the movie’s release, Funko put out a collection of three Pop! Vinyls, along with a Chase version of the main character Miguel, and a Glow-in-the-Dark exclusive of Miguel.
In this review, I include the regular releases of Miguel, Ernesto, and Hector, as well as the Toys “R” Us exclusive GITD Miguel. Not featured is the Chase Miguel, in which he has a human face.
First of all, there is very to little difference in the regular and GITD Miguel as far as paint scheme, so I won’t be unboxing the GITD version. However, he does have a nice redish glow to him in the dark (I could not get a great pic of it), so if you are into collecting the GITD characters, you should try and track him down at Toys “R” Us stores.
As far as the regular releases, I really like this collection, but I do feel that Miguel is a very simple sculpt. I would have loved to have seen him with Ernesto’s guitar or a small version of Dante, his dog. However, the other two, Ernesto and Hector, are really detailed and look great.
Overall, I like this collection, but I do hope that they expand this line to include Dante the dog and some of the other characters from the movie in another wave.
