Welcome to Flashback Friday: The Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this series you’ll get a discussion and brief review on some of your favorite Pops and Dorbz from the MCU. Here, we really appreciate the shared universe so the figures will come from film, television, and streaming. Steve Rogers also known as Captain America was part of Free Comic Book Day in 2016 along with Tony Stark. The duo was made available to multiple comic book shops to do with how they pleased. Steve Rogers from the Captain America: Civil War Dorbz set is this week’s choice for discussion.

Steve Rogers
Unmasked Captain America (Free Comic Book Day)

Discussion: Every year on the first Saturday of May there is an annual promotion known as Free Comic Book Day where people can visit their local comic shops and pick up special free comics during the day. The promotion is geared towards getting more people into their local comic book stores to drive traffic and hopefully gain some new comic book fans. In 2016, Funko announced they’d be doing something special for Free Comic Book Day. Multiple comic book stores would have a Free Comic Book Day exclusive Steve Rogers and Tony Stark Dorbz available for people at add to their collections. The interesting thing is that the stores could do whatever they wanted with the Dorbz. Some stores gave them away for free while others raffled them off to customers. Other stores ended up selling and pricing however they wanted.

I’m very happy that both Steve and Tony are part of the Captain America: Civil War set. The set is comprised of fourteen Dorbz in addition to Steve and Tony which brings the grand total to sixteen. This Dorbz set is the largest one for the MCU so far. Featured players include Captain America, Black Widow, Falcon, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, Iron Man, Vision, Crossbones, Scarlet Witch, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, and Giant Man XL. There were exclusives from Entertainment Earth, GameStop, and Free Comic Book Day. The set also included two Chase figures for Black Panther and Crossbones. I was lucky enough to complete the set excluding the two Chase pieces. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to add them to my collection.

If you’re a Captain America fan or a Civil War fan I feel like this Dorbz is a must for your collection. For me it was a no brainer. I ended up paying for Steve and Tony for what I thought at the time was a fair price. Of course, once demand settled the prices began to drop and I ended up overpaying but I was still very excited to have Steve added to my collection. Steve can be purchased from eBay or Amazon or you could trade for him via our fantastic Facebook group which can be found here. He’s been selling from $20.00 to $30.00 so if you’re able to find a price in the low $20.00s I’d say that’s a good deal.

Description/Review: Steve is unmasked so we get to see his light brown wavy hair with the classic eyes and mouth which you’ll find on most Dorbz. The upper half of the suit is blue with some red stripes surrounding the biceps and forearms. A bright white star is the centerpiece of the chest. The lower portion of the upper body is covered in red and white wavy stripes. Perhaps symbolizing a flag in the wind. The lower body is all blue with black boots. Cap’s trusty shield is on his back just waiting to be thrown at the enemy. Overall, I think this a very well done Steve Rogers and it’s my favorite Dorbz version of the character. I hope there’s more in the future.

What’s next for Steve? If Chris Evans is to be believed then the next two Avengers films will wrap up the Steve Rogers story and most likely his arc as Captain America. If Steve is killed in the film then it looks like Bucky or Sam will step into the Captain America role for their friend Steve. I know I’ll be heartbroken if that happens. So in the meantime please enjoy Steve Rogers in your collections and enjoy Chris Evans as Captain America.

I've been an avid Pop MCU collector for the last few years. I've recently focused my collection on Captain America Funko products since he's my favorite Marvel superhero. I've also been collecting and playing the Pokémon Trading Card game for the last decade. I also run and judge events. I'm into Marvel, DC, Pokémon, Disney, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and WWE.
