Welcome to Flashback Friday: The Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this series you’ll get a discussion and brief review on some of your favorite Pops and Dorbz from the MCU. Here, we really appreciate the shared universe so the figures will come from film, television, and streaming. Sam Wilson, also known as Falcon, close friend of Steve Rogers from the Captain America: Civil War set is this week’s choice for discussion.

Discussion: Sam Wilson/Falcon made his MCU debut in the highly anticipated film Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. The introduction of Falcon to the MCU have given the studio several interesting ways to integrate this character into various team dynamics. Sam and Steve hit it off pretty quick because of their military background. They became really good friends and in Civil War he is Steve’s go to person for help in tracking down Bucky who is Steve’s childhood best friend. Once they find Bucky there’s some fun interactions between the two of them such as them in a Volkswagen Beatle talking about adjusting the seat and when Steve kisses Sharon Carter. Another funny scene is when they’re fighting Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and they can’t figure out how to beat him. Down the line Marvel Studios may let Falcon don the Captain America mantle like he has in the comics.

Falcon

With the popularity of Marvel Studios it was inevitable that a Captain America: Civil War set would be debuting in close proximity to the film. Funko has currently released 18 Pops for this set which include Captain America, Iron Man, War Machine, Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Agent 13, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Crossbones, and Giant Man in addition to Falcon. There was also a multipack that contained Hawkeye and Spider-Man. As you can guess with a set this large there were plenty of exclusives which included Hot Topic, Walmart, GameStop, Walgreens, Barnes and Noble, and Target. Even with the large amount of characters and exclusives why was there not a Vision Pop? I feel like every member on each side should’ve received at least one with Captain America and Iron Man getting the most. But we also got 3 Black Panther and Crossbones Pops. One of those should’ve been Vision.

Falcon is number 127 in the Marvel Pop lineup and he was released as a Hot Topic exclusive in 2016. You probably won’t find Falcon at Hot Topic anymore but fear not. He can be purchased on Amazon and eBay. Looking at current listings he’s between $15.00 and $20.00 which I think is a solid price for him. A good number of buy it now prices are above $30.00 so I’d expect this Pop to increase in value a decent amount over the next year. If you’re looking to buy, sell, or trade you should definitely check out our Facebook which can be found at this link. It’s a great community with thousands of members that can help with transactions and questions.

Description/Review: Falcon has short black hair and a thin goatee. The rims of his goggles are a darker silver with a gold T above the nose and expanding above each eye. The lenses are translucent red. The majority of his suit is gray with spots of red above the chest, on top of the knees, and the top of the boots. The knees are covered in silver armor. Similar armor is surrounding the wrists and biceps. The wings are mostly gray and spots of red and white along the edges. He also comes with a clear stand that hooks into his back to give the illusion he’s flying. Overall, I think for the first Falcon Pop and trying to match him to Civil War as best as possible it’s a success. The design is great and I like the intricacy on the wings.

Falcon

What’s next for Falcon? Falcon’s next appearance should be Avengers Infinity War debuting in the spring of 2018. He’ll be part of a massive ensemble cast that looks to take the worldwide box office by storm. Expect the largest and most diverse Pop set to date and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if this is 30+ characters. I also wouldn’t rule out an appearance from Falcon in Thor: Ragnarok or Black Panther. It’s an exciting time to be a Marvel fan and it’s a very exciting time to be a Marvel and Funko fan.
