Welcome to Flashback Friday: The Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this series you’ll get a discussion and brief review on some of your favorite Pops and Dorbz from the MCU. Here, we really appreciate the shared universe so the figures will come from film, television, and streaming. Agent May from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. set is this week’s choice for discussion.

Discussion: Agent May was specifically created for the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which airs on ABC for those interested. The show debuted in 2013 and Agent May has been featured in all 88 episodes throughout four seasons. S.H.I.E.L.D. will be returning for a 5th season in 2017. Agent May also known as Melinda May is a high ranking agent in S.H.I.E.L.D. who is very close with Agent Phil Coulson. They go way back and the show has hinted that they may be interested in pursuing a relationship with each other. May is definitely a seasoned agent who can throw down with the best of them having earned the nickname “The Calvary” for a mission she completed at a great personal cost. She’s a deeply layered character with a long history as an agent which has taken a physical and mental toll on her over the years.

Agent May

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. only has three Pops as of this writing. They include Agent May, Agent Phil Coulson, and Agent Daisy Johnson (Skye). There’s a lot of untapped potential for new Pops. Jemma Simmons, Leopold Fitz, Grant Ward, Mack, Triplett, Yo-yo, and Lincoln are just a few that could really expand the set. There’s also no shortage of villains and H.Y.D.R.A. agents they could introduce.

Agent May was released wide and could be found at various retail stores that carry Pops. At the time of her release in 2015 I saw her in Hot Topic, GameStop, and Barnes and Noble. She’ll probably be more difficult to find in stores nowadays but she can be easily purchased from Amazon or eBay. You could also trade or purchase this Pop from our awesome Facebook group page which can be found at this link. Surprisingly, she’s been selling under retail value. If you can pick her up for $10.00-$12.00 you’re doing pretty well. If you keep checking eBay listings you may find her for under $10.00. If you’re more interested in trading definitely give our Facebook page a look.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Set: Agent May is numbered 88 within the Marvel Pop series. This is the only Funko item for this character. There are a total of three Pops within this set which I mentioned previously. There are no exclusives. I’d consider this an ongoing set and I’m sure we’ll see new releases in the future. If Marvel Collector Corps happen to do a S.H.I.E.L.D. box then we’re pretty much guaranteed a new Pop. Definitely keep your eye on Pop Vinyls for all of your Marvel Funko news.

Description/Review: The Agent May Pop is really plain. There’s not a lot going on but here we go. She’s got long black hair, eyebrows, and eyes. The upper part of the body is sporting a blue jacket with long black sleeves. A S.H.I.E.LD. logo is featured on each shoulder. The jacket zips down from the neck to the waist. It has two front pockets and what looks like a belt right above the waist. The pants are tactical in nature with what looks to be weapon holsters on each leg. The pants and boots are black. In my opinion, the Pop looks decent and somewhat resembles Agent May but there’s just not a lot going on. It’s a very plain design and the Pop is very top heavy. The one I have tips over if it’s not leaning against something.

Agent May

What’s next? Agent May will continue her role on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this fall after the Inhumans series completes its first season. Look for the season 5 debut in December of 2017 or January 2018. I don’t believe the exact date has been revealed just yet. Hopefully we’ll be getting more Pops based on the show. However, wouldn’t expect another Agent May Pop anytime soon.

I've been an avid Pop MCU collector for the last few years. I've recently focused my collection on Captain America Funko products since he's my favorite Marvel superhero. I've also been collecting and playing the Pokémon Trading Card game for the last decade. I also run and judge events. I'm into Marvel, DC, Pokémon, Disney, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and WWE.
