Welcome to Flashback Friday: The MCU. In this series you’ll get a review and discussion on some of your favorite Pops and Dorbz from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We really appreciate the shared universe so the figures will come from film, television, and streaming. Today’s discussion will focus on the trained assassin, the Black Widow.

When I say the word “Assassin” which character(s) come to mind in the MCU? If I say “Highly Trained” who would you think about? For me, there’s only one character that comes to mind and that’s Black Widow. Today, I’ll be taking a look into her introduction to the MCU, what she brings to the team, and her first Pop Vinyl.

Black Widow

The Black Widow is portrayed by Scarlett Johansson and was introduced to the MCU in Iron Man 2 which was released in 2010. She was already undercover for S.H.I.E.L.D. in the film and was assigned to Tony Stark. She eventually became his assistant. As the film progressed she was revealed to be the Black Widow. As the MCU has developed she’s made appearances and had critical roles in Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War.

Black Widow

Black Widow is very important in the MCU because she’s a grounded, street level character if you will. She doesn’t have any superpowers or outrageous tech. She’s a highly trained agent in the middle of so many impressive characters. She’s also Marvel’s most prominent female hero in the MCU thus far and can hold her own with the best of them. I think Black Widow should’ve had a Pop in the original Avengers line and I’m sure many people were disappointed that she wasn’t featured. Funko and Marvel have since corrected that problem with Pops of Black Widow in the Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War Pop lines.

Black Widow

Black Widow was first introduced to the Pop scene in the Captain America: The Winter Soldier set in 2014. She is numbered 42 in the Marvel Pop series and the rest of the set includes Captain America (41), Captain America (Barnes & Noble) (Black & White) (41), Captain America (Hot Topic) (Glow in the Dark) (41), Captain America (ToyMatrix.com) (Unmasked) (41), Winter Soldier (Unmasked) (43), and Winter Soldier (44).

Black Widow is wearing a gray suit. The top is gray with a small amount of black. The pants are also gray with a tinge of black and gray belt. She has black shoes and black gun holsters on each of her legs. She’s two guns, one in each hand. Her hair is long and red. Personally, I am not a big fan of this Pop. I don’t like that the outfit is gray. It’s clearly black in the film. Not sure what was going on with that. The newer versions of the Black Widow Pops have thinner legs which look better on the Pops. Hopefully they’ll continue to do that in the future.

For those of you wanting to add Black Widow to your collection it will be a little difficult. She is currently vaulted which means this pop is no longer in production. You won’t find her in any stores. Your best bet is to check eBay, Amazon, or our Facebook group which can be found here. This pop ranges from $15.00 to $30.00. You should be able to find it for around $25.00.

I've been an avid Pop MCU collector for the last few years. I've recently focused my collection on Captain America Funko products since he's my favorite Marvel superhero. I've also been collecting and playing the Pokémon Trading Card game for the last decade. I also run and judge events. I'm into Marvel, DC, Pokémon, Disney, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and WWE.
