Hello and welcome to Flashback Friday. Each week I’ll be bringing you a brand new article on a related Pop or Dorbz that’s connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything film or television related is fair game. I’ll be doing a short review and then moving on to my thoughts on the piece and series.
When Marvel announced the partnership with Netflix to produce original programming many fans were both excited and nervous. What would Netflix do with our beloved characters? Well, we got that answer on April 10th 2015 when Daredevil premiered exclusively on Netflix with its first season. The show received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. It was a huge hit and success. We now have a full-fledged Marvel Netflix Universe that includes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and the Defenders. Daredevil was the genesis and his masked vigilante suit stood out as a calling card. Something we haven’t seen on screen in live action before.
Due to the popularity and success of Daredevil Funko created the first MCU related Netflix Pops. Daredevil (Masked Vigilante) Pop was released in early 2016 and is numbered 119 within the Daredevil set. The rest of the set includes Daredevil (120), Matt Murdock (121), and Wilson Fisk (122).
The Masked Vigilante Daredevil is very simplistic and practical just like the suit in the Netflix series. The black shirt and pants are complemented with the black head piece only revealing the mouth and jaw. Notice the strap around his left leg to hold those sweet batons he uses as weapons against his adversaries. I think the Pop looks great for its simplicity and for me it just works perfectly.
If you’re a fan of the show or Daredevil in general you should add this Pop to your collection. It’s different than any Daredevil Pop out there and it really looks great around other figures. Luckily for collectors the Masked Vigilante shouldn’t be too hard to find. I’ve seen this Pop within the last three months at Hot Topic and GameStop. If you’re able to find him in a retail store he should run you $9.00 – $12.00. If you hit up Amazon or eBay he may be a little pricier in the $15.00 – $20.00 range.
