Hello and welcome to Flashback Friday. Each week I’ll be bringing you a brand new article on a related Pop or Dorbz that’s connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything film or television related is fair game. I’ll be doing a short review and then moving on to my thoughts on the piece and series.
Imagine for a moment you’ve just heard a few words that would change the course of history. “I am Iron Man. You think you’re the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark, you’ve become part of a bigger universe. You just don’t know it yet. I’m here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative.”
Those 38 words above changed history as we know it. Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson says those words to Tony Stark during the after credits cookie for Iron Man in 2008. Who could’ve imagined that 8 years later we’d have 14 films all interrelated within the same universe. The Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The MCU wouldn’t be where it is today without Nick Fury. Not only did he help launch the MCU along with Iron Man, he was integral in a number of films including Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The Nick Fury Pop figure was released in 2011 as part of the first Avengers film. The Pop is numbered 14 and the set also includes Captain America (10), Iron Man (11), Thor (12), Hulk (13), and Loki (16) (SDCC Exclusive).
The Pop looks very much like Nick Fury in the films. He has his trademark eye patch and the scars to go along with it. The scars are gray which gives them a weathered look. Like they’ve been there for a long time. He’s rocking the goatee that Sammy J had in the film. So far so good. The classic black trench coat and boots round out the outfit. I think the Pop looks great. The only small complaint I have is that the scars around the eyes should be on all sides similar to what you see in the images from Avengers. Other than that I am very happy with this Pop and I’d love to see Nick Fury show up again in Pop form. Hopefully we’ll get him in the Avengers: Infinity War set.
If you’re looking to round out your Avengers collection or you just happen to be a fan of Nick Fury then this Pop is for you. You’ll have to pry open your wallet to get him. Since he was released way back in 2011 your chances of finding him in a store are slim to none. You’ll need to hunt him down from vendors at conventions or hit eBay and Amazon. The lowest you’ll find him for is around $40.00 if you’re lucky. He’s definitely floated around $100 a few times. Make sure you save up and purchase from a well-respected seller.
