After seven books adapted into eight movies and a follow-up stage adaptation, Harry Potter definitely has surpassed most franchises in terms of both critical and financial success.  Now,  that silver screen will transport us back to the Wizarding World once again… but sans Harry Potter.

And that got me thinking, in general, of the many fantastic beasts within the Wizarding World.

About a year ago, Funko started releasing a series of much awaited Harry Potter Funko POP!s.  Of course, we received a wide array of characters from all seven books/eight movies.  Makes sense as the rich lore of the Harry Potter franchise contains many unique characters with extremely distinguishable features making for easy designs.  Still, without the various magical creatures of the franchise, it wouldn’t feel complete.  As such, Funko has already given us several of these creatures, including Dementors, the Sorting Hat (on Harry’s head), Niffler (from the new Fantastic Beasts spin-off series), hp-nifflerand even a SDCC exclusive three pack of a Cornish Pixie, a Mandrake, and a Grindylow.

Yet, that covers very few of the iconic creatures contained in the series.  Granted, the POP! waves for the franchise only started releasing roughly a year ago and, with only so many waves released thus far, many characters have yet to get the POP! treatment.  As such, it’s time to break down another list of 5 POP!s Funko should do but, as of this writing, have not… in regards to the Wizarding World (which includes Harry Potter books, films, and ancillary material)

As usual, these lists are subjective and you may have a completely different opinion on the matter, and that’s fine. Feel free to sound off in the comments below and let me know if there’s anyone or anything that you felt wasn’t on the list yet should be.

Also, fair warning: Discussing these characters without mentioning their importance to the stories set within the Harry Potter franchise remains impossible.  In other words, SPOILER WARNING AHEAD for those that have not viewed the movies or read the books.

Now, onward!

5) Fluffy

hp-fluffy

Considering he only appeared in one movie, Fluffy became considerably iconic to the series.  In his one and only appearance, Fluffy, the three-headed dog, guarded the Philosopher’s Stone (unsuccessfully) and became an obstacle for the three leads of Harry, Ron, and Hermione to get past.

Fluffy himself has the advantage of being pretty distinctive with the three-heads.  Plus, who could argue against the combined cuteness and viciousness of the character?  I could also envision a flocked variant and/or a sleeping variant pretty easily.

4) Nagini

hp-nagini

As one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, the importance of Nagini to the Wizarding World remains undeniable.  Her venom even resurrected Voldemort from his weakened state once, and she regularly performed small feats for the dark lord and fought our heroes on more than one occasion throughout the series.

As a large, green venomous snake stretching 12-feet long, Nagini’s physical features fail to match anything from the muggle world, making her a non-descript magical creature of a species yet unnamed (although the films use a mixture of Boa and Python traits to define the character depending on the individual movie).  Despite the fact that Nagini’s appearance remains somewhat less striking than many of the other magical creatures of the Wizarding World, Nagini’s role and importance in the series makes her a must for eventual production.

3) Fawkes

fawkes

As Dumbledore’s personal companion, Fawkes earned his importance to the series several times.  Be it pecking out the eyes of the Basilisk or healing Harry, Fawkes played an important role in several key moments even if you didn’t know Harry’s and Voldemort’s wands (and only their wands) were made from Fawkes’ tail feathers.

Additionally, Fawkes’ crimson feathers and hot golden tail just make him entirely interesting physically.  Hopefully, Funko agress and we will one day see him as a POP!

2) Buckbeak

hp-buckbeak

A hippogriff, Buckbeak first appeared in the Prisoner of Azkaban aka Harry Potter’s third book/film.  Although he played an important role further on in the books, Buckbeak quietly vanished from any further appearances.  Hopefully, Funko doesn’t make the same mistake and gives him the chance to shine as a POP! that was denied him in the later movies.

Despite his one-off appearance in the movies, Buckbeak has a large fanbase due to his loyalty and affectionate personality toward those who show him respect.  It also helps his appeal that he once attacked Draco Malfoy.

1)  Hedwig

hp-hedwig

It really couldn’t be any other.

Harry received Hedwig as a birthday gift prior to starting his childhood magical training at Hogwarts, and Hedwig’s death marked the end of Harry’s innocence and training at Hogwarts.  As such, Hedwig symbolized the greatest aspect of the series.

As Harry’s personal pet, Hedwig became instantly recognizable to the series.  Appearing in all books and almost all movies (she doesn’t return in Deathly Hallows Part 2 for obvious reasons), Hedwig constantly appears on merchandise as an icon and symbol of the franchise as a whole.  Heck, even the most iconic Harry Potter score everyone instantly recognizes is called “Hedwig’s theme”.

With her snowy white plumage, Hedwig would make for a rather striking addition to the Harry Potter POP!s

So do you agree?  Disagree?  Let us know below. What Harry Potter creatures would you like to see get the POP! treatments.  Something tells me I’m going to have a few people mention the four tournament dragons (which, I’ll admit, almost made the list).

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a ticket to see some fantastic beasts at my local theater.
