Welcome to Flashback Friday! Each Friday I’ll be bringing you a brand new article on a related Pop or Dorbz that’s connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything film or television related is fair game. I’ll be doing a short review going over the design and costume and then moving on to my thoughts on the piece and series. Today I’ll be discussing a Pop design that never actually made it to the movie or television screen which is hard to believe. I’m talking about none other than the Deep Space Suit Pop from the Iron Man 3 Series numbered 26.

Deep Space Suit 26

Rumor has it that for an end credits teaser for Iron Man 3 Tony Stark would have received a distress call from outer space. He would’ve then put on his new Deep Space Suit which he had designed after the events of Marvel’s Avengers and headed towards that distress call which presumably would have lead into Guardians of the Galaxy. For anyone that stuck around after the film they saw a therapy session with Bruce Banner and Tony Stark. Mark Ruffalo later stated that they brought him in to film the end credit teaser after they scrapped another idea. It sounds very likely that they had some sort of teaser for the Deep Space Suit planned because Funko went along and designed a Deep Space Suit Pop specifically for Iron Man 3.

As it turns out there was no Deep Space Suit used in Iron Man 3 but we did get a Deep Space Suit Pop for the Iron Man 3 Series. There’s nothing from the film to compare the Pop with but here’s an image from the comics to work with.

Deep Space Suit

The suit is a mix of white and dark gray which really meshes well together. We get the trademark Iron Man gold for the face of the helmet and a little gold trim on various parts of the suit. They also included the blue energy emanating from Tony’s mini arc reactor chest piece. Most of the details have been pulled right from the comic book design to give us one of the slickest looking Iron Man suits to date. The only thing that seems to be missing from the comic book design is what looks like some sort of weapon on the suits shoulders or it could be part of the thruster mechanism. I’d love to see a version of this pop with the propulsion coming out of the thrusters similar to some of the more recent Iron Man Pops. The suit design is known as the Godkiller Armor which appears in Iron Man Vol. 5, issue #4 for those interested.

The Pop was released in 2013 as part of the Iron Man 3 Series. In addition to the Deep Space Suit the series includes Iron Man, War Machine, Iron Patriot, Unmasked Tony Stark in the Iron Man Suit, and Unmasked James Rhodes in the Iron Patriot Suit. The latter two were available as exclusives at San Diego Comic Con. The Deep Space Suit Pop is now vaulted which means Funko has ceased the production run.

If you are interested in owning the Deep Space Suit Pop you’ll want to check eBay and selling/trading groups through social media including PopVinyls Facebook page. This Pop typically sells for $50.00 – $70.00.
