Custom Corner: Eeveelution

When it comes to Pokemon, there are few as adorable as the fox-like Eevee. One of the earlier Pokemon to be introduced, Eevee’s long, pointed ears and cream-colored furry collar are instantly recognizable, and its wildly adaptive characteristics make it one of the most diverse Pokemon that currently exists. This Eevee, created by Owlex Graham, along with its full cast of evolutions adapt perfectly to the POP form, as well, with the vinyl figure’s exaggerated features embracing the Eevee’s original design.

While many collectors and customizers alike are drawn to the POPs infinite cuteness, Owlex was pulled to the playful figures because of the loss of a family member. “He was an extremely talented painter. It’s actually why I still make customs; it makes me feel like he’s still with me.” Inspired by other POP customizers, Owlex set about the task of creating his first custom POP and never looked back.

This particular set, requested by a client, was a no-brainer for Owlex. “I really didn’t think twice about it. I’ll do just about anything for Pokemon.” After the first Pokemon, a sculpted representation of the original furry Eevee, Owlex spent the better part of a year creating a full set of all eight of Eevee’s evolutions, utilizing a mix of polymer and epoxy clays to evolve his customs into the popular characters.

A single custom POP is a time-consuming work of art for the artist who takes on the project, but a full set of nine related characters can challenge even the most steadfast artist’s dedication, a challenge Owlex gladly took on. Sticking with similar poses and base POPs to tie the characters together, Eevee and its adorable furry posse are a force to be reckoned with. With a collection like this, you gotta catch ’em all!
