This POP is what was, what is, what will be. In a fiery display of her immense psychic powers, Dark Phoenix, created by Jennifer Bednarski, is bringing her rage to our shelves. From her tornadic hair to her unique hanging display, this figure has set aside her previous identity and embraced her overwhelmingly powerful telepathic abilities.
No stranger to customizing Vinylmations, Bednarski’s addition of custom POP Vinyls to her repertoire was a long time coming, and Dark Phoenix, having drawn her interest for a long time, was the perfect opportunity to explore the idea of another force visually taking over a character. “I decided to illustrate the enormity of the phoenix’s possession by repeating its likeness multiple times… in her hair, the background, and her eyes,” she said of her design.
Bednarski’s portrayal of Dark Phoenix is more a fiery personification of her overwhelming psychic powers than an accurate presentation of the character as seen in the comics. In this way she embodies the character more perfectly, capturing the indifferent destructiveness of Dark Phoenix’s psychic being overwhelming her human mutant origins. There is no more struggle to keep the full strength of her powers at bay, no battle to regain her humanity; in this state, she has been overrun completely by her Dark Phoenix persona, a totality that is clearly evident in Bednarski’s work. With such excellent craftsmanship, this figure’s destiny truly does lie in the stars.
