popsfortotsbannerLast month, we announced that PopVinyls.com and custom artists were coming together to raise money for Toys for Tots. You can read that article HERE but basically we will be auctioning off donated custom Pops in our VK Auction House  to raise money for Toys for Tots. The 2nd round of Pops for Tots Auctions are beginning  Sunday night December 7th. Today we get an awesome mashup of Ice Man and a Christmas Icon: Let’s check out Kareem Clark’s Frosty the Ice Man!

After receiving the amazing Frosty the Ice Man, I asked Kareem Clark to answer these questions!

What got you into making custom Pops?

When I first started my brother and I had already built up a huge collection of Pops. We loved what was already available, but kept seeing amazing custom work online. I would definitely not call myself an artist before starting, and I actually think it shows from my first piece. I didn’t really care though, I made the next one, which was better, and the next one, which was even better; and it spiraled from there. I started out with very simple paint jobs, to more complex epoxy sculpting, and now resin casting and flocking. I love challenging myself to incorporate new aspects in the customs as I go.

How long have you been making customs?

I made my first custom Pop this past March and have been growing and learning ever since.

What is the favorite custom you have made?

I always do this thing where I change my favorite to whichever custom I just finished but I would have to say that my actual favorites are the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond Pops I made this past summer; but not necessarily because of the Pops themselves. I went to a convention and had great conversations with both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan about the customs when I got them signed.

What was the inspiration for the piece you created for our Pops for Tots auctions?

The Pop I made for the Pops for Tots auction came about because I really wanted to do something Marvel related. As my brother and I were throwing around silly Christmas pun-character names, we landed on “Frosty the Iceman.” I figured we couldn’t get any cornier than that so I ran with it.

How can people see other customs of yours and commission their own?

My work can be found on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest under the name: Fandom Figures. I should also give credit to my brother Deen Clark who makes the boxes I use for the customs and runs the social media.

Big thanks to Kareem Clark for Frosty the Ice Man. This custom piece goes up for auction starting Sunday night December 7th in the VK Auction House.
