popsfortotsbanner Last month, we announced that PopVinyls.com and custom artists were coming together to raise money for Toys for Tots. You can read that article HERE but basically we will be auctioning off donated custom Pops in our VK Auction House  to raise money for Toys for Tots. The 2nd round of Pops for Tots Auctions are beginningon Sunday December 7th. Let’s take a look at this Christmas Deadpool, created by Dan Stevens aka DragonFly Designs. This custom Deadpool also has an extra ability to “light up” when you connect Deadpool to his stand just right! 20141120_125955

After receiving the custom, I asked Dan a few questions about this custom and being a custom artist.

What got you into making custom Pops?

I used to make & sell custom action figures a long, long time ago. After I started collecting POPs I started see a need for characters that collectors were dying to see so I found my old brushes & paints and started to go to work.

How long have you been making customs?

I’ve been doing custom toys on and off for 20 years but POPs specifically for about 3 years now.

What is the favorite custom you have made?

My favorite has to be a custom Smythe (Spidey villain) action figure that I was hired by Toy Biz to make when I was still in high school. They saw my work and contacted me via a friend to do a last minute custom. My Smythe was featured in some promotional pictures and was even in the Toy Biz catalog from that year.

What was the inspiration for the piece you created for our Pops for Tots auctions?

Whenever I think about an auction for a good cause I always want to do something that’s exciting for the bidders. Everyone loves batman so a batman/superman should be exciting. The main goal is to make as much money for the cause as the pop can. I hope it does.

How can people see other customs of yours and commission their own?

The Christmas theme was hard at first but I remembered how no matter how you neatly you store the Christmas lights they always get tangeld up and untangling them is a nightmare. I thought it would be funny to see Deadpool go through the same thing normal people do. I decided to challenge myself and make them light up too which is something I never tried before

How can people see other customs of yours and commission their own?

A lot of my older work is up on my facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/DragonflyDesignsCT ) and instagram also ( instagram.com/dragonflydesignsCT). I don’t typically take commissions.

Thank you so much Dan Stevens of Dragonfly Designs for donating  Deadpool to our Pops for Tots Auctions. He will be available for auction starting Sunday December 7th in the VK Auction House.
