I was a bit surprised when they revealed the glamour shots for this series, personally because I didn’t think the transition would be smooth, but after Funko revealed the figures I was pleasantly surprised at the results. Now the first thing I have to say before continue is that I’m not a big Dragonball Z fan, I have not watched the TV shows or read the mangas, but I do have friends and colleagues who enjoy the show and the characters.

Super Saiyan Goku

The main protagonist of the series in all his blue eyed glowing and golden hair glory. I think like most transitions to Funko form it has been successful and this series is no exception.  Capturing the intensity of the character with the ferocious eyebrows and turning up the charm with the crystal blue eyes.

For those of you unfamiliar with the character, he is a Saiyan that was sent to Earth with a mission to destroy it, but an accident occurred and alter his memory, resulting in him growing up to be Earth’s greatest defender. If there was one thing I would fix, and I am just nitpicking here, it would be to include the Chinese character on his orange outfit, but that’s just small details that might change since they have time to make changes before these roll out onto store shelves.

Vegeta

The prince of the fallen Saiyan race and arch rival to Goku. He was once a ruthless, and cold blooded warrior, but abandoned those roles to remain and live on Earth, fighting alongside the Z fighters, all while striving to become the universe’s most powerful warrior, specifically with the mission to defeat and surpass Goku in power. His character evolves from villain, to antihero protagonist through the course of the series.

What I really like about Vegeta is the inclusion of his scouter, it actually adds to the already charming figure. This is probably my favorite feature out of this whole series, another detailed inclusion to this figure is his widow’s peak, I think it is pretty cool to include such a small detail, which is one of the many reasons I’m a collector and a huge fan of their products.

Frieza (Final Form)

One of the most significant villains in the Dragonball Z anime and manga. A galactic emperor who runs the planet trade and is feared for his ruthlessness and power. Now I don’t watch a lot of Dragonball Z, but he sounds really evil and badass, and it shows in his POP! form. Although I wished his tail was a little longer but I’m just nitpicking at this point. Funko has done a great job so far handling the transitions that I have yet to find a series I dislike.

Piccolo

A Namekian and the final son of King Piccolo. At first he was the ruthless enemy of Goku, but later became a permanent member of the Z fighters, specifically when he forms a close bond with Goku’s son Gohan after training him. What I really liked about this figure is the accurate replication of the outfit. Down to the pink muscular pads on the arms to the wrinkles in the pant, absolutely amazing detail on this figure.

Perfect Cell

A super villain and the ultimate creation of Dr. Gero, designed to possess all the abilities of the greatest fighters to ever inhabited or visit earth. Cell has an original personality with a variety of other character’s personalities added in. His appearance is rather unique,  resembling an insect and when he goes throught the different stages of metamorphosis.

His vinyl figure counterpart is pretty amazing, like the Piccolo figure, the details on this figure is spectacular, all the spots of his outfit and the height of his bat like helmet, this along with the Vegeta figure is probably my favorite out of this Dragonball Z series.

This is a step in the right direction for Funko’s animation line, as I think they should start releasing more figures based on animation. You can PREORDER these HERE through Entertainment Earth, and happy hunting fellow Fanatics!
